Weatherbird is a unique custom-built classic 2-masted French schooner, built for Sara and Gerald Murphy, a jet-setting New England American couple. The couple made the yacht famous for hosting the likes of Zelda and F. Scott Fitzgerald, Cole Porter, Ernest Hemingway, Dorothy Parker, and Pablo Picasso aboard in the Mediterranean. She was built in 1931 by the French shipyard Chantelot & Lemaistre in Chantiers Navals De Normandie with design by Russian aristocrat Victor Orloff and Heni Rambaud. She embodied the opulence of the artistic aristocrat aesthetic at the time, now the often sought-after art deco style.
She is 31 Meters /100 Feet with a 20-foot beam and 12-foot draft. Her oak hull and teak deck and wheelhouse create an ambiance of natural refinement. Preserving elements of her original design and character, she has just been totally refitted in 2022, designed by her new owner with care, and transformed into a modern classic beauty.
Her classic beauty and heritage now combine with high-tech and pristine furnishings for the ultimate comfort. She hosts 8 guests aboard in 4 staterooms outfitted with Ralph Lauren linen and custom brass & silver hardware to accentuate the glory of the 1930s. Touch-screen panels control audio/visual and various lighting “scenes” while an electric fireplace lights up with the touch of a button. Her salon table is also a Yamaha F01 piano, offering panoramic views to anyone relaxing indoors. With her homeport in Athens, Greece is now accepting charters in the East Mediterranean, allowing those who admire old-world glamour, a contemplative and refined lifestyle, and the rustic charm of where East meets West a chance to forget it all and sail aboard. A crew of 4 service her.
